Chelsea have been handed a huge boost with midfielder Moises Caicedo signing a new deal with the club.

The Blues announced on Friday afternoon that the Ecuador international had put pen-to-paper on a new contract, which is set to run until the end of the 2032/33 campaign.

The midfielder’s contract had been set to expire in 2031, but has has now committed his longer-term future to the west London outfit.

Caicedo, 24, joined Chelsea from Brighton and Hove Albion back in 2023 having impressed during a relatively short spell with the Seagulls.

He cost Chelsea more than £100 million but, after a slow start, has established himself as one of the best midfielders in Europe and one of the standout players in the Premier League over the past couple of seasons.

The Ecuadorian made his 140th appearance for the Blues when he started their defeat against Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday, and will hope to add to that tally in the coming months and years.

So far this season the midfielder has featured 42 times across all competitions, scoring five goals and providing one assist.

Since arriving at Stamford Bridge, Caicedo has lifted both the FIFA Club World Cup and the UEFAConference League, both under former head coach Enzo Maresca.

The former Brighton man has formed a strong midfield partnership in SW6, and the Ecuadorian had been linked with several of Europe’s top clubs before signing his new deal.

Caicedo will also expect to feature heavily for Ecuador at the World Cup in the United States this summer, with the South American side in Group E alongside Germany, Ivory Coast and Curacao.
