Humbert vs. Bergs, Fils vs. Collignon

Frenchmen Ugo Humbert and Arthur Fils are seeded at Wimbledon and will kick off their campaigns on Tuesday. They are going up against Zizou Bergs and Raphael Collignon, respectively, as first-round action continues at the All-England Club.

(27) Ugo Humbert vs. Zizou Bergs

Humbert and Bergs just faced each other in the Eastbourne final this past weekend. Two days later, they will meet again in round one at Wimbledon. Bergs won the first ATP title of his career by beating Humbert 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 on Sunday in a match that was delayed from Saturday due to rain. The head-to-head series is now tied 1-1, as Humbert took their first matchup 6-4, 6-4 on the indoor hard courts of Marseille in 2025.

The rematch may favor Humbert. Sunday marked the most important moment of Bergs’ career to date, so it won’t be easy to get right back in gear with almost no time off. Moreover, the 37th-ranked Belgian is 0-3 lifetime in the main draw at the All-England and also lost in qualifying in 2023. Humbert, on the other hand, has twice reached the fourth round of this tournament (2019 and 2024). The revenge factor should also be taken into account, so the 30th-ranked Frenchman will likely have the edge on Tuesday.

Raphael Collignon vs. (20) Arthur Fils

Fils arrives in London as a significant question mark — but arriving at all is relative victory. The 22-year-old Frenchman has not played a single Grand Slam event since the 2025 French Open due to all kinds of injury problems. He he has not played any tournament since the Rome Masters because of a hip problem.

Up first for Fils on Tuesday is Collignon, whom he has never faced. The story is a much different one for the 24-year-old Belgian, who is riding plenty of momentum. He upset Ben Shelton to reach the third round at Roland Garros (lost to eventual semifinalist Matteo Arnaldi in a fifth-set tiebreaker) and advanced to the Halle quarterfinals as a qualifier. Collignon is one of the best unseeded players in the field, so this is a tough draw for Fils as he makes his latest comeback.
