We wanted to get an overview of how Newcastle United fans are feeling at the moment.
Thoughts on the 2025/26 season that has just concluded.
As one season ends though, thoughts immediately turn to what comes next, only 11 weeks to go until the 2026/27 Premier League kicks off.
An ideal time to get a snapshot of views from Newcastle United fans on their thoughts, with a busy summer ahead of us all.
So we sent out questions to a number of regular/irregular contributors to The Mag.
Next up answering the questions is Nat Seaton:
Three words to describe Newcastle United now?
Disappointment, transition, hopeful
Is Eddie Howe still in charge next season the correct decision?
100% YES!
How confident are you that Newcastle will not lose Bruno, Hall, Livramento, Thiaw and Tonali? Do you think it would be a good thing if any of these players were sold?
Very confident all of them will still be with us next season.
Nothing to gain in selling any of these players, in fact the team should be built around them. With it being a World Cup summer hopefully transfer speculation will be at a minimum and I don’t feel any of these Newcastle United players have a desire to want to leave the club.
Which players emerge with credit for the 2025/26 season?
Thiaw
Bruno
Tonali
Barnes
Hall
Livramento
Schar, before sadly getting injured.
What would represent success in the 2026/27 season for Newcastle United?
A couple of good cup runs, going for the Carabao Cup early in the season then taking on the FA Cup in the second half of the season.
As for the league, top four would be a great success. Champions League must be the aim; 5th place may prove to be enough again with the English co-efficient being so strong but top four would be brilliant.
Newcastle United fell from 5th to 12th in the Premier League, what percentage of the blame/responsibility would you attach to each of these?
Alexander Isak 25%
Eddie Howe 5%
The players 10%
Newcastle United owners (not dealing properly with Isak situation, not having senior staff in place etc to help get summer 2025 transfers done etc) 45%
Bad luck and small margins 15%
What rating out of 10 would you give each of the permanent summer 2025 signings for their contributions across the 2025/26 season and what are your hopes/expectations (if any) for each of them next season at Newcastle United?
Anthony Elanga 4 Very disappointing to have spent that kind of money on a right winger and the team to still need improvement in the position. Hopefully he can turn things around next season.
Jacob Ramsey 7 I like Ramsey, think he has potential to improve and he definitely reads the game, would be good to see him gets some starts with Bruno and Tonali to see how the three will play together.
Malick Thiaw 8 The best of the summer signings, to have played as many games as he did with consistent performances bodes well for the future.
Yoane Wissa 2 What is there to say other than baffling what has happened here, let’s hope for much better things next season (it cannot go the other way!)
Nick Woltemade 6 I like big Nick and hopefully we can make him into a Premier League player. He’s young and willing and has potential, I hope he gets to realise this at Newcastle.
What do you see as the biggest priorities in the transfer market this summer?
Goalkeeper!
Was it the correct decision to sell Anthony Gordon and how do you think he should be judged on his time at Newcastle United (and do you think he will prove a success at Barcelona)?
Selling him to Barcelona is OK by me.
I liked Gordon, I believe he has been a good signing for Newcastle United, but it was never going to be a long term stay with how he saw his career progressing. He is very ambitious and willing to learn, put in the work in training and on the pitch, great qualities that stand him in good stead to be a success at Barcelona.
What do you predict will be the Newcastle United first choice eleven for the 2026/27 season and please put ‘new signing’ in any position where you think that will turn out to be the case.
New signing – goalkeeper
Livramento
Thiaw
Botman
Hall
New signing – right wing
Bruno
Tonali
Ramsey
Barnes
Woltemade
Predict the top six in the Premier League (in order) in 2026/27.
Man City
Arsenal
Liverpool
Newcastle United
Chelsea
Man U
Which eight current Newcastle United players (in order) are the most important to keep for the 2026/27 season?
Bruno
Tonali
Hall
Livramento
Thiaw
Botman
Ramsey
Miley
At what point did you first think the 2025/26 Newcastle United wasn’t going to turn out as you had hoped it would?
March was such a mixed bag of results. Six games in total, the highlights being beating Manchester United at home with Osula’s late winner, winning at Chelsea and a good performance against Barcelona in the home draw.
The three defeats were season ending though, Manchester City putting us out of the FA Cup, Barcelona dumping us out of the Champions League, followed by the mackems victory, at that point there was no ‘salvaging’ the season.
How would you rate your optimism for next season at Newcastle United from 0-100?
80 🙂
Will you be taking an active interest in the Newcastle players at the World Cup?
Yes, how much game time they get may be limited (other than Bruno!) but let’s hope they all have great performances if they get to play.
When Anthony Gordon is playing at the World Cup will you still be thinking of him as one of our own?
In some ways yes, I wish him well.
What level of interest generally will you have in the World Cup and what is your prediction on who will win it and how far do you think England will get?
I’m looking forward to it, we haven’t had football for a few weeks now and the World Cup is always special. Not sure about watching all the games that are on at sensible times with the volume of matches this time around, but I will be watching the knockout games with England hopefully still involved! Don’t see England getting past the quarter finals which may be Brazil if they both win their groups and I think France will win the whole thing.
