‘I Love The Physical Skill Set’ Matt LaFleur Bullish On Packers’ Undrafted Rookie

The Packers‘ quarterback overhaul could go well beyond who is backing up Jordan Love.

With Tyrod Taylor in, Malik Willis and Desmond Ridder now out, the Packers also bolstered depth at quarterback in hopes of adding a developmental prospect in undrafted rookie free agent Kyron Drones.

Drones, signed by the Packers as an undrafted rookie late last month, seems to have made quite the impression on Packers head coach Matt LaFleur, following Green Bay’s rookie minicamp.

“I love the physical skillset … he definitely has the physical skills to play the position,” said LaFleur. “A lot of it is just how fast can he pick up our stuff and, you know, the processing speed when he gets out on the field.”

While he isn’t going to be competing with Love for starter snaps, there’s a real chance that Drones could push for competing for a roster spot this spring and certainly during training camp and the preseason this summer.

Last season, with the Hokies, Drones, 6-foot-2 and 235 pounds, passed for 1,919 yards with 17 touchdowns to nine interceptions.

LaFleur and the Packers are hoping that he can be a developmental prospect who adds value within the program while potentially developing into a trade chip down the line.
