UFC lightweight champion Ilia Topuria’s ex-wife blames Joe Rogan for a series of alleged death threats against her and her family.
Ilia Topuria will headline the upcoming UFC White House card against interim titleholder Justin Gaethje in a highly anticipated matchup later this month. After almost a full year away from fighting, Topuria will finally return to the Octagon to defend his undisputed lightweight title against the UFC fan favorite Gaethje.
Just weeks after knocking out Charles Oliveira at UFC 317, Topuria began a long hiatus from competition to deal with personal issues outside of the Octagon. He and his wife divorced, and the drawn-out proceedings forced Topuria to postpone his lightweight title reign.
Speculation swirled that Topuria’s ex-wife began dating other men beginning in the early stages of the divorce, which led Joe Rogan and others to criticize her. Social media sleuths discovered a photo posted of Topuria’s ex-wife taking a selfie with another man, leaving many to slam her online.
During a December 5th episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, Rogan reacted to the now-debunked photo that was making waves on social media.
“You’re married to the UFC lightweight champion, and he decides he doesn’t want to be with you anymore, and now she’s taking photos with rappers and stuff,” Rogan said.
“They try to steal your soul. This is the mother of your children, and this lady is a monster.”
It turns out – the photo in question was of Giorgina Uzcategui and her brother, and not another love interest or a ‘rapper’. Before the photo was debunked, Uzcategui was allegedly bombarded with death threats on social media, as she recently explained.
Ilia Topuria’s ex-wife blames Joe Rogan for threats after ‘monster’ podcast comments
In a recent Instagram story post, Topuria’s ex-wife, Giorgina Uzcategui, responded to Rogan’s podcast comments in which he labeled her a ‘monster’.
“To experience how a group of people wanted to change the narrative even using a picture of my [brother] and trying to portray an image of me that does not exist,” Uzgategui wrote of Rogan’s comments.
“This caused a lot of harassment, hate and even people threatening to kill me and my daughter.”
As of this writing, Rogan hasn’t responded to Uzcategui’s claims. The longtime UFC commentator is scheduled to be at the UFC broadcast desk for Topuria’s upcoming fight against Gaethje on the White House lawn.
