PC: Zimbabwe Cricket

Innocent Kaia registered 140 runs off 227 balls, powered by 17 fours in the first innings of the one-off Test match against Bangladesh. The Zimbabwe opener brilliantly anchored his team’s innings, marking an incredible seventh century in his last eleven outings, and his maiden Test ton.

Since February 19, Kaia has successfully accumulated a total of 995 runs across First-Class and List A cricket. He represents Southern Rocks in Zimbabwean domestic competitions.

Alongside Kaia, it was Ben Curran who got the team off to a flyer, adding 42 runs. Furthermore, Brian Bennett and Craig Ervine also made crucial contributions as Zimbabwe was eventually bowled out for 410, securing a massive 270-run first innings lead in Harare.

Kaia’s century did not just lay the foundation for Zimbabwe’s commanding position in the first innings, but also reaffirmed his status as one of the country’s most dependable batters. Now, having carried his prolific domestic form into Test cricket, Zimbabwe would be hoping for the experienced batter to continue to lead from the front in the second innings. After posting 140 runs in the first innings, Bangladesh found themselves at 40/1 at the end of Day 2 while trailing by 230 runs.
