Indian seamers restrict Pakistan batters
Earlier, Pakistan’s batting faltered after opting to bat first. Openers Kamran Akmal (24 runs) provided a decent start, but the Indian seamers kept things tight, restricting them to a below-par total of 156/6. Shoaib Malik (41 runs) emerged as the lone bright spark for Pakistan with a fighting knock.
Anureet Singh was the pick of the bowlers for India, claiming a crucial three-wicket haul. Vinay Kumar, Irfan Pathan and Pawan Negi chipped in with a wicket each, ensuring Pakistan’s batsmen never quite got into a dominant position.
Ambati Rayudu steer India’s run chase
India’s chase of Pakistan’s modest 156/6 was anchored by a splendid knock from Ambati Rayudu. His well-paced 50 off just 30 deliveries provided a solid foundation. Gurkeerat Singh Mann (34 runs off 33 balls) chipped in with valuable support, keeping India on track.
In a late flourish, Yusuf Pathan took the game away from Pakistan with a swashbuckling 16-ball 30, including three sixes and a four.
Meanwhile, Irfan Pathan’s first-ball boundary in the last over ensured India crossed the finish line comfortably with five wickets to spare.
