Undefeated Australian standout Nikita Tszyu and unbeaten Spanish contender Oscar Diaz went face-to-face at the final press conference ahead of their super welterweight main event showdown taking place this Wednesday night at Newcastle Entertainment Centre.
Tszyu returns to a city that has become a second home for the Tszyu name, looking to extend both his unbeaten record and the family’s dominant run in Newcastle, while Diaz arrives intent on spoiling the party and announcing himself on the world stage.
The press conference also featured fighters competing on a stacked undercard, including Olympic representative Callum Peters, who takes a significant step up against dangerous American Joeshon James in the co-main event.
“I think it’s just anyone’s self-belief. You have to be confident in this sport. Without confidence, you’re kind of screwed. I’ve experienced this all before. Everyone says that they’re going to take me out and it hasn’t happened yet,” Nikita Tszyu said.
“There’s going to be a lot of unknowns in this fight. I’ll need to be adapting to him, to his style, to his rhythm, but we’ll eventually figure it out and then we will entertain the public. Once you see that belief fade, that’s one of the sweetest things of the sport. I love boxing simply for my ability to hurt someone and I get to do it legally.
“Newcastle is like my second home. I’ve had some memorable nights out here and I plan on continuing the trend of bringing more knockouts and entertaining the public. We’re going to have a great fight. It’s going to be fun. It could get messy and I really hope it does.”

“I’m very privileged to be here. I’ve been received very, very well, and I’m looking forward to going home with a lot of people knowing who I am,” Oscar Diaz said.
“I’ve watched all his fights, and he’s never faced a man like me. He’s got nothing on me. I’m going to take him out early.
“After Wednesday, they’re going to be calling it ‘DiazCastle’ (Not ‘Tszyuastle’).”
The event will be broadcast live on Main Event and Kayo Sports from 7:00pm AEST.
