Key Match Recap

Alexander Zverev (2) def. Alexander Blockx 6-1 6-4

Zverev produced a very impressive performance to reach the fourth round, defeating Blockx for the second time in nine days (following their Madrid semi-final).

The two-time Rome champion was dominant in the first set and stayed solid in windy conditions. He hit cleanly through the court, showed excellent variety, and finished the match with a highlight-reel drop volley.

Zverev looked much sharper than in his previous round, and this is not a good matchup for Blockx.

Lorenzo Musetti (8) def. Francisco Cerundolo (25) 7-6(7) 6-4

A big home win on Campo Centrale for Musetti. He battled through a high-quality first set and won a crucial tiebreak, then raised his level in the second set.

Cerundolo played a poor match overall and looked timid, failing to serve out the first set twice and struggling to take advantage of Musetti’s physical woes.

Casper Ruud (23) def. Jiri Lehecka (11) 6-3 6-4

Ruud continued his dominance over Lehecka (now 3-0 in their H2H) with another straight-sets victory. The Norwegian has yet to drop a set in Rome this year and looked very comfortable on the clay.

Dino Prizmic (Q) def. Ugo Humbert (31) 6-1 7-5

The 20-year-old Croatian qualifier backed up his stunning win over Novak Djokovic with another confident performance. He dominated the first set and held firm in the second to reach the fourth round of a Masters 1000 for the first time. Prizmic is up to a career-high No. 68 in the live rankings and is building momentum.

Rafael Jodar (32) def. Matteo Arnaldi (WC) 6-1 4-6 6-3

Jodar continued his excellent clay season with a composed victory over the home favourite. After racing through the first set, he was forced to fight back when Arnaldi levelled the match and went up an early break in the third.

The 19-year-old Spaniard regrouped brilliantly, reeling off five straight games from 1-3 to close out the win in front of a partisan Italian crowd. He improved to 14-2 on clay this year and will face Learner Tien next after he took out Bublik in three sets.
