Bangladesh right arm pacer Taskin Ahmed has responded to critics after his side’s historic 2-0 ODI series win over Australia. He highlighted that the victory came on good cricket wicket rather than the slow surface often associated with Mirpur, Dhaka.
Speaking after Bangladesh’s win, Taskin said the achievement is more special because it came on a good wicket. “This time no one can say anything about the wicket either,” Taskin said to the reporters as quoted by Cricbuzz. “We’re playing on a good wicket. It’s not a paddy field, okay? We’re playing on a good wicket and beating a good team. So it’s a great achievement.”
Critics has actively raised questions over Bangladesh’s pitch and they believe such conditions gives host an advantage. However, the wicket used in the ongoing series against Australia provided equal help for both batters and the bowlers.
Speaking about Bangladesh’s progress as a team Taskin said, “As a team, we’ve been gradually growing over the last year or so. We’re improving by playing on better wickets and in better conditions because our goal is only one thing: to perform well in major tournaments.”
The fast bowler believes playing on sporting surfaces will help Bangladesh adapt better. “In Australia or South Africa, wherever we play, there will definitely be extra bounce. The more we play on good wickets like these, the easier it will be to adapt. I’m sure it will help us in the future,” he added.
Taskin called the victory as one of the biggest win of his career. “It’s very memorable,” he said. “Not just for me, but for everyone. Because this is the first time we’ve won a series against them.”
