Indiana’s 2026-27 roster will be rebuilt this spring by second-year coach Darian DeVries, who will navigate the portal with executive director of basketball Ryan Carr and the Hoosier coaching staff.
Inside the Hall will examine some of the prospects who could make sense for the Hoosiers to pursue out of the portal. Up next: Colorado forward Sebastian Rancik.
Previously: Markus Burton, Rowan Brumbaugh, Adam Olsen, Darren Harris, Aiden Sherrell
Numbers to know
62 career games at Colorado: 8.9 points, 4.1 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 0.6 steals and 0.4 blocked shots in 22.4 minutes per game. Rancik shot 41.2 percent from the field, 30.6 percent on 3-pointers and 80 percent from the free-throw line. Rancik has two seasons of eligibility remaining.
Background and potential fit
Listed at 6-foot-11 and 220 pounds on his official bio by the University of Colorado, Rancik is a native of Bratislava, Slovakia, who played high school basketball at JSerra Catholic School in San Juan Capistrano, California.
A member of the 2024 recruiting class, he was regarded as a four-star prospect and the No. 121 player nationally by the 247Sports Composite. He chose Colorado over offers from a long list of schools, including USC, Arizona State, Mississippi State, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, TCU, San Diego State and others.
Over his 62 games at Colorado, Rancik made 37 starts. He made 11 starts in his freshman season, all during Big 12 play, for a Colorado team that finished 14-21 in the 2024-25 season. His most notable performance came in a 71-59 loss at Kansas on February 11, 2025, when he finished with 19 points and nine rebounds in 30 minutes. He scored in double figures in eight games as a freshman.
His role grew in his second season under Tad Boyle, as he started 26 of 29 games before missing the final four games with an undisclosed injury. He scored in double figures 20 times and had one double-double, which came in a 78-70 win against Arizona State on February 7. He finished with 17 points and 11 rebounds in 30 minutes.
Rancik showed a strong ability to draw fouls and finish at the free-throw line over his first two seasons at Colorado. This past season, his free-throw rate (FTA/FGA) was 50.6 percent and he shot 86 percent from the stripe on 129 attempts. He also ranked 13th in the Big 12 in defensive rebounding percentage.
He’s been a below-average 3-point shooter (30.6 percent) for his career on 180 attempts from distance. For his career, he is 113-for-228 on 3s, good for 49.6 percent.
Jamie Shaw of On3 reported earlier today that Indiana is scheduled to have Rancik on campus later this week after completing a Zoom call with him. Before the IU trip, he is scheduled to visit Florida State and BYU is scheduled to get a visit as well.
As far as fit goes, Indiana needs size and talent in its frontcourt. Rancik has both and also has experience at the high-major level, which makes him attractive as a possible frontcourt addition. Currently, Indiana has seven players on its roster for next season and the Hoosiers need multiple frontcourt pieces to move up the Big Ten standings.
