Veteran Australian pacer Megan Schutt has confirmed that the upcoming T20 World Cup in England and Wales will be her final ICC tournament. The 33-year-old said she wants to end her World Cup journey on a winning note after Australia suffered semi-final exits in their last two major tournaments.

“I’m not much of a planner; I like to go with the flow,” Schutt told AAP when asked about her retirement plans. “I don’t see myself getting to another ICC tournament, that’s for sure. I’ve had my time and it’s about letting the next generation take over.”

When asked about her hunger for another World Cup, she replied: “Hungry is one word and, for me, it’s revenge, or spite … it’s definitely one I want to go and win.”

Schutt made her international debut in 2012 and has since become one of Australia’s most reliable bowlers. In the 2013 ODI World Cup, she finished as the tournament’s highest wicket-taker with 15 wickets, helping Australia lift the trophy. Since then, she has claimed 152 wickets in T20Is, 148 in ODIs, and nine in Tests.

Schutt admitted that Australia’s recent World Cup defeats still weigh heavily on her. “I’m competitive in everything I do — which is both a good and a bad thing,” she said. The last two have stung and, after being part of so much success, it stings even more.”

Australia trained in Brisbane before leaving for England, where they will play practice matches against South Africa, the West Indies, and England ahead of their tournament opener against South Africa on June 13 in Manchester.
