James Jones Sends Shockwave With Bold Claim About Matthew Golden

Former Green Bay Packers wide receiver James Jones is keeping his belief in wideout Matthew Golden.

Many have already dismissed Golden as a draft bust following his highly disappointing rookie campaign in the 2025 NFL season.

As Green Bay’s first wide receiver selection in the first round of a draft in over two decades, fans expected not just quality production from the former Texas Longhorns star; they thought he was going to be a star right away.

But the 2025 season proved to be a challenging one for Golden, who was taken 23rd overall in last year’s draft.

Former Packers star Jones sees superstardom for Golden

For Jones, one season is not enough to conclude Golden as a bust — but he’s also seemingly seen enough to make a bold positive declaration about the young wide receiver.

He’s going to be a superstar,” Jones said about Golden during Green Bay’s annual Tailgate Tour, via WFRV Sports’ Carson Fowler.

Golden can expect plenty of opportunities to prove his critics and naysayers wrong in the 2026 season.

With Green Bay parting ways with wide receivers Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks, Golden should be able to draw much more attention downfield than he did in 2025.

Last season, Golden collected only 361 receiving yards with zero touchdowns on 29 receptionsa nd 44 targets. He had a nice ending to his rookie season, though, albeit in a 31-27 loss to the Chicago Bears in the playoffs, catching four of five targets for 84 receiving yards and a touchdown.
