Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis Defeats Xander Zayas in Brooklyn, NY – Video Highlights & Post Press Conference

Brooklyn, NY (June 30th, 2026)– Jaron “Boots” Ennis defeated Xander Zayas via a seventh-round TKO on Saturday night, June 27, 2026, at a sold-out Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The thrilling, back-and-forth slugfest ended at the 1:49 mark of Round 7 when Zayas’ corner threw in the towel after their fighter was dropped for the third time in the match. With the victory, Ennis captured Zayas’ unified WBA and WBO super welterweight (154-pound) world championships, successfully securing titles in a second weight class.

In round 1, Ennis set an aggressive tone early, switching to southpaw and dropping Zayas late in the frame with a crisp straight left hand. Zayas beat the count but struggled with Ennis’ initial speed.

In round 2, Zayas attempted to stand his ground and trade in the pocket. Ennis continued to find a home for heavy power shots that visibly impacted the young Puerto Rican champion.

In round 3, Zayas showed heart and roared back, rocking Ennis heavily with a flush right hand that put the Philadelphia native into survival mode for the first time in his career. Ennis managed to clear his head and wobbled Zayas right back with a short left hook just before the bell. However, Zayas lacked the power to seriously hurt Ennis.

In round 4, Zayas maintained his momentum, putting together great body-head combinations and sharp jabs while Ennis focused on tightening his defense in the pocket.

In round 5, Ennis completely recaptured control. He caught Zayas with a hellacious, clean right uppercut that sent Zayas to the canvas for a second time. Zayas barely beat the count at nine and spent the rest of the round in pure survival mode.

In round 6, action slowed considerably as both fighters showed signs of fatigue after the blistering pace of the earlier rounds.

In round 7, Ennis came out re-energized, trapping Zayas in the center of the ring and unleashing a vicious barrage of power hooks. A final, brutal shot forced Zayas to a knee. Though Zayas looked to beat the count, he shook his head toward his corner, prompting his training team to step in and stop the damage.

The fight significantly boosted the stock of both men due to the elite skill and heart displayed. Ennis improves to (36-0, 32 KOs) and stakes a massive claim in the pound-for-pound hierarchy. Zayas suffers his first professional defeat, falling to (23-1, 13 KOs).
