Jasprit bumrah to play against Bangladesh: Reports

Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah might come back to playing cricket in the upcoming month, during the two-game Test series between India and Bangladesh. A report from the Indian Express says that Bumrah, who last played for India in the T20 World Cup 2024 final against South Africa in Barbados on June 29, 2024, is expected to participate in one of the two Test matches against Bangladesh next month.

The cricket series with red balls between India and Bangladesh is set to begin on September 19 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The next match will be held at Green Park Stadium in Kanpur.

It is said that Bumrah might play in one of the two matches against Bangladesh. Because there are only three days between each of the three matches against New Zealand, the 30-year-old fast bowler is expected to play in only two of those games against the Kiwis.

With Mohammed Shami not available, Siraj is ready to take charge of the Indian fast bowling team for the upcoming series at home. Similar to Bumrah, he will be rotated during the season and might be given a break for a few home Test matches.

“We can’t rest all the players at once because we need experienced players, even when playing at home. Just like we did in the England series, pairing a senior fast bowler with a younger one, we will follow a similar strategy. We have a strong group of fast bowlers from the Duleep Trophy who were selected with the Australia tour in mind. If they perform well, we can use them in home conditions before bringing them to Australia,” said a BCCI official.

Bumrah, who participated in four of the five Test matches against England earlier this year, took 15 wickets in the T20 World Cup 2024 for the team led by Rohit Sharma and was awarded the Player of the Tournament. After that, he was given a break for the five-match T20 series against Zimbabwe and the limited-overs tour in Sri Lanka.

He was not included in any of the four teams chosen by the BCCI selectors for the next Duleep Trophy, which begins on September 5 in Andhra Pradesh.
