Jeff Hardy Wants To Bring Back His First TNA Theme “Modest” For Singles Matches

Jeff Hardy Wants To Bring Back His First TNA Theme “Modest” For Singles Matches

Jeff Hardy may be known for jumping off ladders, crashing through tables, and painting his face like nobody else in wrestling, but the guy’s music catalog is still a huge part of his identity. Now, he wants to bring one of his original TNA entrance themes back into the mix.

During a conversation with Ropes N Riffs, Hardy talked about how important entrance music is in pro wrestling. For Jeff, it is not just background noise. It is the first thing that tells fans somebody special is coming through the curtain.

Hardy explained that TNA gave him a lot of freedom during one of his past runs, especially when it came to using original music. He said there was even a stretch where he had a new song at Bound For Glory for several years in a row. That led him right back to “Modest,” his first TNA theme.

“Well, it’s super important. I mean, that first sound of the theme that you hear, I mean, that’s when you know your favorite wrestler’s coming out or the most disliked wrestler is coming out. That’s, you know, once you hear that first sound of the theme, man, that it’s on. And it’s so important. One thing about TNA that’s been very cool over the years, my last run in TNA, I think it was six years in a row, each year I had a new song at Bound For Glory. So, I thought that was like super cool. You know, we did it like six years in a row. And it was all original stuff, you know, that I had written. And I really enjoyed that. I’m really wanting to bring back my first theme song for TNA. It was called Modest. And that’s where I really first got into like writing music and lyrics and recording and all that stuff. So, I would love to do a new version of that song for my singles matches in TNA now to use that instead of Loaded when I come out with Matt.”

That is a pretty big deal for longtime TNA fans. “Modest” was not just another entrance track Hardy used for a quick run. It marked a different side of Jeff Hardy, one that mixed his wrestling persona with his own music instead of just relying on a standard theme handed to him.

The host brought up Hardy’s original TNA debut, when AJ Styles was standing in the ring and “Modest” hit. Fans could hear Jeff’s voice in the song, and the whole thing felt completely different from what Hardy had used before. Hardy said that was no accident, because the song came from a personal creative stretch in his life.

“Yes, for sure. It was like I went through a period of like writing really — it was like a group, I think it’s like six songs, a group of like six songs. They all had the special kind of vibe like Modest had. And Another Me was another one of those songs that was around that same time period. There was one called Unbreakable or something that I lost, and we had a house fire back in ’08 and I lost a lot of stuff that I’ll never probably remember. But yeah, Modest was just, it fit my personality so well. And especially I still have this idea on my bucket list before my career is over to actually hear Loaded at first, when Loaded slows down, the drums get real slow, and then it kicks into that Modest drum beat. So I’m hoping that we can make that happen sometime soon in TNA. But yeah, Modest was one of the first songs I wrote for my wrestling theme. And then Another Me was after that. So me and Joe Henry actually performed Modest. Joe kind of figured out a little riff to play it and we got through and that was super fun and exciting. But yeah, Modest, it just came from the heart. And it was one of the songs, like, it happened really fast. And yeah, I think that’s some of the best songs. Most of the best songs happen really fast.”

Hardy also dropped another idea that would take things even further. He does not just want to use “Modest” as a regular entrance song. He wants to actually sing it live on the microphone while walking to the ring for singles matches in TNA. That idea makes sense for Jeff Hardy, because his entire act has always been about blending wrestling, music, body paint, and chaos into one strange package only he can pull off. Hardy said performing “Modest” live would bring all of those pieces together.

“Yeah, you’re right. I don’t know, it’s just kind of the vibe I guess I felt when I was making the beat to Modest and it just felt right. But yeah, another thing too, thinking about Modest and what I would love to do in TNA for my singles matches is to actually sing the song on the mic on the way to the ring. And when I think about that, I don’t know if it’s that way all the art, the paint, and the music, and the wrestling would all kind of be together. So I’m hoping that could happen. But yeah, I really didn’t know. It was just I kind of went with whatever beat I would create on my keyboard back then. I think I had a keyboard called a Triton. I figured out how to use it pretty good to make beats. But yeah, it just kind of felt right and then the words just followed. And that’s what I love the process of writing song writing what I love the most is the idea that you’re translating what the music is telling you to write. And I just love that. Sometimes it takes a long time and sometimes it happens really quick. But yeah, the tempo just felt right. And it felt like a change of pace for me after those young, you know, young 20-year-old Jeff Hardy WWE years coming out and just doing everything I possibly could to impress people. It just felt right.”

Jeff Hardy has used plenty of memorable entrance themes over the years, from “Loaded” with Matt Hardy to “No More Words” in WWE, but “Modest” clearly still means something special to him. It was one of the first songs he wrote for his own wrestling career, and now he wants to bring it back in TNA with a new twist.

Whether TNA actually lets Hardy walk to the ring singing “Modest” live remains to be seen, but it would definitely give fans a full Jeff Hardy experience: music, paint, nostalgia, and a little bit of weirdness all at once.
