Joe Root achieves historical feat, becomes first-ever batter to reach this milestone

England star batter Joe Root scripted history by achieving a massive feat during the second day of the first Test against Pakistan in Multan on Tuesday. After Pakistan batted for almost 2 days before getting bundled out for 556 runs, the England batters came out to bat during the final session of the second day.

After losing skipper Ollie Pope for a duck, Zak Crawley and Joe Root steadied England’s ship and formed a great partnership of 92 runs in 20 overs before the second day was brought to a close.

Root finished the day unbeaten on 32 runs off 54 deliveries. This knock saw him become the first-ever batter to cross the 5000-run mark in the World Test Championship (WTC).

Root came into the match needing 27 runs to achieve the huge feat and he now has 5005 runs in 59 matches. Australia’s Marnus Labuschagne is second with 3904 runs while his compatriot Steve Smith occupies the third spot with 3484 runs.

Root can achieve another huge feat during the ongoing Test match as he is just 39 runs away from overtaking Alastair Cook as England’s top-scorer in Test cricket.

Root also took another firm step in matching Sachin Tendulkar’s record for 1000-plus Test runs in most calendar years.
