John Cena is being promoted for an appearance at WWE Backlash 2026 in Tampa, FL.
The Benchmark International Arena, which will host Backlash on May 9, is advertising his return with the following message – “JOHN CENA RETURNS TO TAMPA AT BACKLASH!”
Despite the promotion, Cena has not officially confirmed that he will be part of the event. In a previous social media post, he teased the possibility, writing, “Man if only it were 2023 again!! I might have different business at @WWE #Backlash. Alas, the years pass. I am still gonna try to do something epic in Tampa for 5/9. I promised Club WWE something special… stay tuned.”
Cena stopped short of explicitly stating that he would appear on the show.
His most recent WWE appearance came at WrestleMania 42, where he served as host — marking his first time back on WWE television since his retirement match in December.
