Just a week ago, Denver Broncos linebacker Jonathon Cooper was arrested on domestic violence charges in Colorado, but pled not guilty earlier this week.
In the latest update, Cooper was arrested again on four more charges, according to Broncos reporter Mike Elis.
“Broncos OLB Cooper was arrested again at around 6 last night by Parker police and booked into Douglas Co. jail at 10:07 pm on four additional charges stemming from violating protection order placed against him. He’ll appear in court this morning,” Klis wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
Cooper received two new charges for domestic violence, one for harassment based on repeated phone calls and the fourth for violation of a protection order he received when he was first arrested last week.
Elis reported earlier in the week that Cooper had a motion hearing set.
“Cooper, his attorney Harvey Steinberg and Douglas County District Attorney’s office have a motion hearing set for July 6 and a jury trial hearing set for July 22 in Douglas County Court. Training camp to roughly start July 25. Steinberg asked for soonest possible trial date and Judge Waidler found July 22 available,” reported Klis on X.
Cooper and his girlfriend initially faced domestic violence and misdemeanor criminal mischief charges. Cooper pled guilty to the mischief charge, as it came from Cooper damaging his girlfriend’s cell phone after biting it.
The Broncos and NFL are aware of the charges and are monitoring the situation.
“We are disappointed to learn of Jonathon Cooper’s arrest on Thursday and continue to review this matter,” the Broncos said in a statement.
