Junior Davis Cup – The Hindu

The Indian team after qualifying for the Finals.

India qualified for the Junior Davis Cup (under-16) Finals after finishing fourth in the regional Asia-Oceania Final Qualifying in Shymkent, Kazakhstan, recently.

The Rana Banerjee-coached team, comprising the trio of Tavish Pahwa, Hruthik Katakam and Ribhav Saroha, recorded wins over Indonesia (2-1), Malaysia (3-0) and China (3-0) in the round robin before beating Uzbekistan 2-0 in the quarterfinals.

India lost the semifinals to Kazakhstan 0-2 and the third-place match to Japan by the same scoreline.

The 16-team Finals will be held in Egypt later this year, and will feature Australia, Kazakhstan, Japan and India from the Asia-Oceania grouping.
