Karen Chukhadzhian vs. Paddy Donovan fight recap

Paddy Donovan (15-2, 11 KOs) earned himself another shot at a world title with a unanimous decision victory against Karen Chukhadzhian (26-4, 14 KOs).

Although one judge had it 113-113, the other two saw it 115-111 and 114-112 for Donovan. He is now in line to challenge for the IBF welterweight world title with the win as this fight was an eliminator. The belt is currently held by Lewis Crocker who takes on Liam Paro on June 24 in Australia.

The opening round saw both men stand at range of each other and try to land singular shots from a distance. It became a fight where Chukhadzhian pursued his opponent around the ring in a bid to close the distance. Donovan was content with moving off the back foot and rocked the Ukrainian in round three with a left upstairs.

Chukhadzhian was dropped in the sixth from a left uppercut. His come forward approach meant he kept getting caught with shots from Donovan. Chukhadzhian was dropped once more in round eight from a right to the head. Although it was ruled a knockdown, it was clear that he had been pushed down.

Donovan continued to move off of the back foot and try to outbox Chukhadzhian as the fight progressed. In spite of the knockdown call in round eight, the Ukrainian was having some success offensively, mainly with a variety of shots upstairs. The final round saw several exchanges at close range, but it was too late for Chukhadzhian to turn things around.
