Kisumu RFC unveil new coaching staff ahead of 7s campaign and promotion push

Kisumu RFC have unveiled a new coaching staff that will lead the squad ahead of the new campaign, which kicks off with the National Sevens Circuit.

In a statement, the club confirmed the appointment of Simon Wariuki as Head Coach, with Allan Kasiti Musee taking up the role of Assistant Head Coach.

Wariuki joins Kisumu RFC after an extensive spell at Nakuru RFC, where he served four years as Head Coach and five years as Assistant Coach in the Kenya Cup. He also worked as Assistant Coach for the 2024 Super Series champions, Cheetahs.

Known for his “Brains Rugby” philosophy, Wariuki has been tasked with implementing a clinical system aimed at restoring Kisumu RFC’s status as a top-flight powerhouse.

Kasiti, on the other hand, joins the club after previous coaching stints with Sigalagala RFC, Western Bulls, and Mukumu Boys. He has built a reputation for developing winning programs from the ground up.

The club says Kasiti will spearhead its mission to identify and nurture talent from the Lake Region and Western Kenya through a rigorous scouting and mentorship structure.

Kisumu RFC have also outlined ambitious targets for the new era, including achieving a top-two finish in the KRU Championship to secure a return to the Kenya Cup, improving competitiveness on the National Sevens Circuit, and establishing a strong pathway for youth development in the region.

“By pairing Wariuki’s elite top-flight experience with Kasiti’s proven ability to build winning programs from the ground up into our technical bench, we have created a technical bench capable of restoring Kisumu RFC to its rightful place at the summit of Kenyan rugby. The work begins now,” read part of the statement from the Kisumu RFC Executive Committee.
