Philon was a four-star recruit in the class of 2024 who signed with Alabama out of Missouri. In his first season with the Crimson Tide, he registered 10.6 points, 3.8 assists and 3.3 rebounds. His play helped the Crimson Tide get to the Elite Eight that season. Philon decided to return to school for the 2025-26 season, registering 22 points, 3.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game. He led the team to a Sweet Sixteen appearance in the 2026 NCAA Tournament.
Following the NCAA Tournament, Philon declared for the 2026 NBA Draft. He is currently projected to be a mid-round pick.
Labaron Philon Strengths
Philon developed into a three-level scorer during his time at Alabama. He can beat his man off the dribble and get to the basket, where he finishes well despite his relative lack of size. Philon can pull up from the mid-range and hit a decent percentage of those shots as well. He took a huge jump as a three-point shooter from his freshman to his sophomore season, becoming a legitimate threat from deep.
He is a good creator who took over more on-ball duties this past season. Philon had a 2 to 1 assist to turnover ratio this past season as the lead ball-handler for Alabama. He sees the floor clearly both in transition and in the halfcourt offense. Philon operates the pick and roll well to make sure his team gets an open shot.
His ball handling is also very impressive. He has good handles while also protecting the ball. Philon moves quickly with the ball in his hands to get to the basket. He is also able to create space for jump shots. As a combo guard who will be asked to play on and off-ball at the next level, he can be trusted to run the offense when called upon.
Labaron Philon Weaknesses
Philon has just ok size for the NBA, as he stands at 6-foot-2.5 and 176 pounds. He will need to add strength to his frame to hold up to the grind of an NBA schedule. This will also help him match up defensively and finish more efficiently at the basket.
He has the athleticism to stay in front of his man, but he can have some struggles defensively. With his offense taking a step forward this past season, he didn’t have as much energy to deploy at the defensive end of the floor. He can have trouble when he has to switch and guard bigger defenders as well.
While his shooting did improve this past season, he can be streaky from deep. He will need to become a more consistent shooter at the next level to really make shooting a strength. Philon will need to adjust to the NBA 3-point line and show that last season’s improvements can continue.
