Josh Hokit’s controversial comments about Michelle Obama at UFC Freedom 250 were already messy enough — then Lars Sullivan decided to make sure the wrestling side of the internet stayed involved.
Hokit had just knocked out Derrick Lewis in the second round after walking out at the White House event with full “Real American” energy. Red, white, blue, Hulk Hogan vibes, the whole thing. But instead of the finish carrying the night, his calling Michelle Obama a man definitely did. Dana White quickly made it known he wasn’t co-signing any of it.
“I understand that the Obama’s are public figures but I’m completely against saying nasty and false things about people’s families…Everyone knows my position on free speech but I hate that kind of nonsense.”
That could have been the part where people moved on. Lars Sullivan did not as he took to Twitter and mocked the outrage, arguing that Democrats should not be upset over Hokit’s comment because of their views on gender. He also repeated the “Big Mike” insult that has been aimed at Michelle Obama for years.
“Why do democrats freak out when someone calls Michelle obama a man? Lol. Aren’t they the ones who say ‘men can be women’ and ‘gender is fluid’? Dont be such hypocritical r*****. Learn to have a sense of humor. Big Mike may or may not be a man, shouldn’t we accept him/her anyway?”
That is a very different lane from Dana White, who clearly wanted daylight between UFC and the remark. Sullivan, meanwhile, treated the whole thing like a punchline and leaned into the exact kind of talk White had just rejected.
For context, Sullivan did not provide evidence for the claim about Michelle Obama, just like Val Venis didn’t either. The rumor has circulated online for years, but it has never been substantiated, so take it with a grain of salt.
At the end of the day, Hokit won the fight, but his post-fight comment hijacked the night. Now Sullivan’s tweet has dragged the issue further into wrestling discourse, and it doesn’t look like this controversy is cooling down just yet.
