It was more than 10 days but the country still struck in the winning moment. After 17 years of wait, team India lifted their second T20 World Cup trophy. The Rohit Sharma and Co. performed outstandingly under Rahul Dravid’s guidance. But Rahul Dravid’s celebration caught eye. After that, former Indian batter and NCA chief VVS Laxman appreciated Rohit and Kohli’s gesture to bring Dravid to the celebration.
India’s Trophy Win After Long:
After 2013, Team India had to wait long for the trophy. In this edition of the T20 World Cup, Team India performed exceptionally well. Since the beginning of the tournament, Team India was on high. They won all the group stage and super eight stage matches and qualified for the final.
In a thrilling T20 World Cup final, India faced a tough challenge as South Africa needed 30 runs from 30 balls to chase 177. Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, and Hardik Pandya turned the game around, securing a narrow 7-run victory for India. The team celebrated enthusiastically in Mumbai, despite their delayed return from Barbados due to Hurricane Beryl.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted the victorious team for breakfast in New Delhi, while crowds lined Marine Drive in Mumbai for Rohit Sharma’s team during their victory parade. The BCCI honored the team at Wankhede Stadium, awarding them prize money of Rs 125 crore.
Rohit Kohli’s Heart-Winning Gesture for Dravid:
After Team India won the trophy, the entire team busted into celebration. Their raw emotion was coming out. After captain Rohit Sharma lifted the long-awaited trophy, the entire team started a celebration together where Dravid was not in that celebration. But Virat Kohli made sure to include coach Dravid in the celebration. VVS Laxman praised his gesture.
Laxman said, “And then someone like Rahul, with whom I have played so much cricket, I have known him for so many years, for him to show so much emotions, first when the last ball was bowled and the conversations he was having with various team members. When he lifted the World Cup, I thought it was a great gesture by Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to hand over the trophy. And the way he celebrated lifting the trophy showed how much it meant to each one of them.”
During India’s trophy celebration after the final, Laxman highlighted a touching moment when Kohli invited Dravid to step forward and savor the victory. He said, “Everyone showed their emotions. It showed how much it meant to each and every player of that squad. It’s not only the playing XI. Even the support staff and the coaching staff, the emotions were high. You saw Hardik Pandya break down and show his emotions after bowling the last over. We saw Rohit Sharma on the ground.”
