Layla El – ‘WWE Set Me Up For The Remainder Of My Life’

Former WWE star Layla El recently shared praise for several members of WWE’s current women’s division, with Chelsea Green topping the list.

Speaking with Denise Salcedo, Layla was asked whether she still follows WWE programming. The former Divas Champion, who spent nearly a decade with the company from 2006 to 2015, admitted she doesn’t watch every week but still checks in during major periods such as WrestleMania season or whenever a particular talent grabs her attention.

When asked which current stars have stood out to her, Layla immediately pointed to Chelsea Green. She explained that Green’s character work and presentation remind her of the Divas Era, making her one of the performers she enjoys watching most.

Layla also highlighted several of WWE’s biggest female stars, naming Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, Naomi, and Rhea Ripley among the women she believes are leading the charge for the division today. According to Layla, those performers continue to set the standard for women’s wrestling and play a major role in its ongoing success.

You can check out some highlights from the interview below:

On whether she follows the current WWE product: “I don’t, honestly; I don’t do weekly, I’ll be honest with you, but I always, like, start watching around, like, the WrestleMania time because that’s my favorite. Especially when the Royal Rumble is coming up, stuff like that. That’s when I really start watching. But I still keep up to date with, like, social media these days because you get to see, like, you know, little clips, everything, stuff like that. So, I’m not such an avid, like, watcher, but I will tune in, especially if there’s someone who catches my eye.”

On the women’s wrestlers who have caught her attention: “I love Chelsea Green, love her. She reminds me of the Diva era. You know, when you can just see someone willing to do anything for the business, she just goes out there and entertains. Charlotte Flair is phenomenal. Becky Lynch is phenomenal. Naomi… Even Rhea Ripley, she’s a flipping superstar. All of them. I’m in awe of all the women right now. I’m so happy for the evolution of women’s wrestling. I’m just a supporter and just happy to watch women’s wrestling, and in the next five, ten years, I just can’t wait to see it.”

On WWE setting her up for the remainder of her life: “Well, thank you for saying that. WWE really did set me up for the remainder of my life. I mean, I get to go worldwide and be known, you know what I mean? I have so many opportunities that are open to me, and I get to do things that I guess, you know, if I wouldn’t have been with WWE, I would never been able to do, and it’s just WWE gave me a legacy that I think a lot of people follow, and I’m proud of, and there’s gonna be a lot of things I’m gonna be doing, like I’m gonna go back to England, so I’m gonna be doing a lot of stuff there, so without WWE, I would not have been able to get that. I’m just gonna say, you guys gonna have to wait and see. Just follow my social media, and you’ll get to see what’s coming up next.”
