WrestleMania 42 is done, and it delivered. Two nights in Las Vegas, more than 106,000 fans across both shows, a historic Brock Lesnar retirement, and a new champion crowned in the main event. Here is a full rundown of how the Showcase of the Immortals played out.
Gambling.com, which covers traditional sportsbooks and the growing sweepstakes casino sector, ranks WrestleMania among the most-bet entertainment events on the calendar. “WrestleMania 42 had the kind of unpredictability that keeps fans and markets guessing right to the final bell,” said a boxing and combat sports analyst at the site. “Roman Reigns winning the title in that finish was not the outcome many anticipated, and that is exactly what makes these events so compelling.”
Night One: Saturday Highlights
John Cena opened WrestleMania 42 as host, setting the tone for what would be a mixed but memorable first night.
The opener saw LA Knight and The Usos take out Logan Paul, Austin Theory, and iShowSpeed. The celebrity involvement added genuine entertainment value, with iShowSpeed eventually putting Logan Paul through the announce table after the match. It was the kind of chaotic fun WrestleMania opening cards are built for.
Jacob Fatu and Drew McIntyre followed in an Unsanctioned Match that started before McIntyre even reached the ring. Fatu flew through the ropes during the Scottish Warrior’s entrance and never let up. The Samoan Werewolf won via Moonsault, continuing his dominant run.
One of the night’s biggest pops came from a return. Paige stepped in as Nikki Bella’s replacement in the Women’s Tag Team Championship Fatal Four-Way, and she and Brie Bella won the titles on her first night back in eight years. It was a moment the Las Vegas crowd embraced without hesitation.
Becky Lynch followed with a third Intercontinental Title win over AJ Lee in a match full of crowd energy. Gunther defeated Seth Rollins in a hard-fought clash, though a Bron Breakker interference soured the finish. Cody Rhodes retained the Undisputed WWE Championship over Randy Orton in the controversial night one main event, though it was Orton planting a post-match punt to Cody’s skull that sent fans home talking.
In an emotional moment between matches, Bianca Belair appeared to announce she is pregnant. The crowd response said everything.
The night closed with Liv Morgan defeating Stephanie Vaquer to win the Women’s World Championship. Saturday attendance came in at 50,816.
Night Two: Sunday Highlights
WrestleMania 42 Sunday was the first WrestleMania broadcast live on ESPN, and it opened with a match befitting the occasion.
Oba Femi pinned Brock Lesnar with a Fall From Grace to kick off night two, and what followed was more memorable than the match itself. Lesnar removed his gloves and boots in the ring. Paul Heyman cried at ringside. The Las Vegas crowd gave him “Thank you, Brock” as The Beast said goodbye to in-ring competition, joining Goldberg, John Cena, and AJ Styles in retirement.
Penta retained the Intercontinental Title in a six-man ladder match that featured Rey Mysterio, Dragon Lee, Je’Von Evans, Rusev, and JD McDonagh. Evans nearly pulled off the upset before Penta delivered a Mexican Destroyer off the top and scaled the ladder to keep his belt.
Trick Williams won the United States Championship from Sami Zayn in a match boosted by ringside entertainment from Lil Yachty. The Demon returned for the first time in three years, with Finn Balor putting Dirty Dominik through a table with a Coup de Grace in their Street Fight.
Rhea Ripley defeated Jade Cargill for the WWE Women’s Championship with a timely assist from Iyo Sky, who evened the odds when Cargill’s Baddies tried to interfere. Mami is back at the top.
Danhausen crashed The Miz’s attempt at a WrestleMania moment during an interlude hosted by John Cena. It was exactly what it sounds like, and the crowd loved it.
The main event lived up to its billing. Roman Reigns and CM Punk beat each other to a pulp across nearly 40 minutes. Punk bled, Reigns bled, Punk put Reigns through the announce table with a Randy Savage elbow, and Reigns kicked out of two GTS attempts before a final Spear gave him the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Sunday’s crowd of 55,255 brought the two-night total to 106,072.
