Lewis Hamilton jokingly checks if Ferrari trophy is “quality approved”

Lewis Hamilton gave Formula 1 fans another memorable moment after the Canadian Grand Prix — and this time it had nothing to do with overtakes or strategy calls.

Shortly after securing second place in Montreal, which marked his best result since joining Ferrari, the seven-time Formula 1 world champion was caught on video playfully hitting his P2 trophy twice while standing on the podium.

The scene immediately sparked reactions online, with many fans joking that Lewis Hamilton was carrying out a bit of “quality control” on the trophy to check how resistant it actually was.

The British driver appeared relaxed and in good spirits after one of his strongest weekends of the 2026 Formula 1 season. Following several difficult races last year, the podium finish in Canada represented an important breakthrough both for Lewis Hamilton personally and for Ferrari as a team.

What made the moment even more entertaining for fans was the casual and spontaneous way the Briton interacted with the trophy. Rather than delivering a carefully staged celebration, the Ferrari driver simply seemed curious — and amused — by the object in his hands.

Moments like these have become one of the reasons why Lewis Hamilton remains one of Formula 1’s most popular personalities. Beyond the results and statistics, fans often appreciate the lighter side of his character, especially during emotional weekends where the pressure inside the paddock is particularly intense.

The Canadian Grand Prix itself was already a major talking point for Ferrari. The seven-time F1 world champion delivered an aggressive and controlled performance throughout the race, eventually finishing second after showing strong pace in the closing laps. It was his first podium with Ferrari and the clearest sign yet that he is beginning to feel increasingly comfortable with the SF-26.

As the celebrations continued after the race, however, it was this funny little podium clip that quickly started circulating across social media platforms, with Formula 1 fans turning Lewis Hamilton’s “trophy inspection” into one of the most entertaining off-track moments of the Montreal weekend.

And considering how important that podium was for Ferrari, perhaps Lewis Hamilton simply wanted to make sure the trophy was built to last.
