Liverpool will be without both Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson when the Premier League returns in August.

The duo both depart Anfield this summer and made emotional farewells to the crowd during their 1-1 draw against Brentford on the final day of the season.

Reds boss Arne Slot had found his own future at the centre of much speculation after a dismal defence of their top flight title, but it appears that the Dutchman will be staying put on Merseyside for now.

In the wake of their draw against the Bees, though, it is emerging that Liverpool are eyeing a move for a Germany international amid uncertainty surrounding the future of one of their current crop of defenders.

As per DaveOCKOP, Liverpool are showing interest in Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck as a potential replacement for Ibrahima Konate.

The report claims that Frenchman Konate is set to depart Anfield when his contract expires at the end of June, with the player failing to reach an agreement over a new deal.

Konate joined the Reds back in 2021 and has since played an integral role for the club, but he will now depart as a free agent with several top European sides – including Real Madrid and Bayern Munich – understood to be interested.

Liverpool are now said to be weighing up a potential move for Schlotterbeck, 26, as a replacement for the outgoing Konate.

Schlotterbeck has made more than 160 appearances for Dortmund since joining the club from fellow German side Freiburg in 2022.

The report suggests that those in charge of Liverpool’s recruitment have identified the centre-back as a possible target ahead of the summer transfer window, with Schlotterbeck’s current contract set to expire at the end of the 2030/31 campaign.
