Tottenham Hotspur’s hopes of avoiding relegation from the Premier League were given a huge boost as they beat Aston Villa 2-1 on Sunday evening.

The visitors found themselves in front early on at Villa Park when Conor Gallagher’s low strike nestled in the bottom corner, before Richarlison doubled their advantage shortly after.

Despite Emi Buendia pulling one back for the Villans deep into added time, Roberto De Zerbi’s side held on to record consecutive victories in the Premier League for the first time since the opening weeks of the current campaign.

The result leaves the Lilywhites 17th in the top flight standings, a single point above 18th-placed West Ham United.

Next up for Spurs is a home match against Leeds United, but in the meantime it has emerged that one of the Premier League’s biggest sides have lodged a bid for one of Tottenham’s key players.

As per Spanish outlet Fichajes, Premier League champions Liverpool have tabled an offer in the region of £82 million for Spurs centre-back Micky van de Ven.

The Dutchman has established himself not only as one of Spurs’ best players, but also as one of the best central defenders in the Premier League over the past couple of seasons.

Having joined Spurs from Wolfsburg in 2023, the Netherlands international has now made more than 90 appearances for the club across all competitions.

Liverpool – who themselves have struggled this term – are said to be on the hunt for a centre-back who could lead their defence for years to come, and the Dutchman has been identified as a prime candidate to do so.

Van de Ven’s contract with Tottenham isn’t set to expire until the end of the 2028/29 season, but the London side could struggle to keep hold of the player if they are relegated to the Championship.
