Sunday 2nd June was the date for our second Lords Taverners Super 1’s festival held at Holyport Cricket Club. Nearly 50 players all arrived excited for the day ahead at a very sunny Holyport. For a few of the players, this was the first-time playing matches against other teams so there were a few nerves, but these quickly disappeared once the games started.
Each team played 2 games in the morning to form the group stage. There was some terrific cricket by all teams involved, with some big sixes hit and plenty of wickets being taken. Once the group games were finished, the barbecue was lit and lunch was enjoyed by players, parents and coaches.
After lunch the remaining games were played before a final took place between Buckinghamshire’s Super 1’s team and East Reading Super 1’s hub (Bulmershe Badgers). Batting first, Bulmershe Badgers (renamed by coach Connor on the day) did well to score 40 runs from their 12 overs. In reply Buckinghamshire started very strongly and looked to be cruising towards the target before losing 3 wickets in 1 over. This brought the game back closer but the Buckinghamshire captain came out and smashed the ball to all parts of the ground to ensure his team took home the trophy.
A huge well done to all players for playing their part in a wonderful day. A massive thank you must also go to Holyport Cricket Club and all it’s volunteers who made the day so special. We already can’t wait for the 2025 festival.
