Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) opener Mitchell Marsh’s blazing 90-run knock helped his side seal a dominant seven-wicket win over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their IPL clash on May 15 in Lucknow.
During the post-match presentation, the Player of the Match Marsh reflected on the win despite a difficult season. “Nice to get a win, few and far between for us this season,” he said. “We have stuck together as a team and nice to get a reward tonight. (On his form) We have great people within this group, some great kids. Feels like he takes the pressure off me. Have grown up together playing for Western Australia, we know each other well and it was a good partnership tonight.”
While chasing 188 runs, Marsh started aggressively from the very first over. Though he missed a well-deserved century due to an unfortunate run-out at the non-striker end, his 90 runs off 38 balls set the tone for LSG’s chase.
His innings was laced with nine boundaries and seven sixes at a strike rate of 236.84. So far this season, the 34-year-old has scored 467 runs from 12 innings at an average of 38.91 and a strike rate of 162.15.
Marsh also spoke about batting in the powerplay and his unfortunate dismissal. “The first 2-3 overs can be hard work and at the start of the tournament, we were two or three down and were not able to get through. It is a good wicket once you get going. Sort of reminds me of Perth Stadium a little bit. (On his dismissal) Cricket is a funny game, isn’t it? Had a bit of bad luck in the summer…I enjoy being out there with the boys – it is always good fun.”
This victory was LSG’s fourth win of the season. Although they are already out of the playoff race, this win will help them to get some boost ahead of their next clash as they will next face Rajasthan Royals on May 19 in Jaipur.
