Ludwig Kaiser Will Be Back In Mexico Despite Ongoing Legal Drama

Ludwig Kaiser is heading back to Mexico after all. Just one day after AAA canceled an El Grande Americano appearance following Kaiser’s Florida arrest, Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide has rescheduled the event and confirmed the masked character will return on Friday, May 22.

AAA announced that El Grande Americano’s “Serenata Para” appearance is back on ahead of AAA Noche de Los Grandes later this month.

That is a major turnaround considering the original event was canceled almost immediately after Kaiser — whose real name is Marcel Barthel — was arrested in Orange County, Florida earlier this week over an alleged April altercation at his Orlando apartment complex. Now, it appears Kaiser’s legal situation may not stop him from traveling internationally for wrestling appearances after all.

As Ringside News previously reported, Kaiser’s legal team filed a supplemental motion requesting permission for out-of-state and international travel while the misdemeanor battery case remains active. The key development is that prosecutors are apparently not objecting to the request. The filing states:

“Since the initial filing of the Motion to Travel, undersigned counsel communicated with Assistant State Attorney Shaylynne Kotch, who indicated no objection to this motion.”

The filing then asks the court to formally approve travel for WWE and AAA-related obligations.

“WHEREFORE, for the foregoing reasons, the Defendant respectfully requests this Honorable Court to enter an Order allowing him to travel out of the State of Florida and internationally.”

AAA’s decision to quickly bring back the event now makes it look increasingly likely the company expects Kaiser to still appear in Mexico despite the ongoing legal case. Kaiser remains scheduled for AAA Noche de Los Grandes on May 30, where he will wrestle under the El Grande Americano mask against Chad Gable in a Mask vs. Mask match tied to the ongoing storyline between the two characters.

Ringside News previously reported that Barthel turned himself in after learning an active arrest warrant had been issued against him. He later posted $1,000 bond and entered a written plea of not guilty.

The misdemeanor battery case stems from an alleged April 23 incident at the Paramount on Lake Eola Apartments in Orlando. Investigators previously stated probable cause was established through witness statements, visible injuries, surveillance footage, and a photo lineup identification.

Even with the legal situation still active, all signs now point toward Kaiser returning to Mexico and continuing the El Grande Americano storyline as planned.

Do you think AAA made the right call bringing Ludwig Kaiser back to Mexico so quickly after his arrest? Let us know in the comments.
