Kobbie Mainoo’s goal earned Manchester United a 3-2 victory over Liverpool on Sunday, sealing their place in next season’s Champions League.

After early goals from Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko had put the hosts in a commanding early lead, the reigning Premier League champions surged back in the second half.

Dominik Szoboszlai halved the Red Devils’ advantage, before turning provider to set up Cody Gakpo for the leveller.

Mainoo’s pinpoint strike restored the hosts’ lead, though, and Michael Carrick’s side held on to secure all three points and qualify for the Champions League.

In the wake of the match, it has emerged that Man United are one of two Premier League giants interested in a forward that previously struggled in England.

As per Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport, via CaughtOffside, both Man United and Chelsea are monitoring forward Donyell Malen, who is currently on loan at Roma.

Malen is currently an Aston Villa player, having joined the club from Borussia Dortmund in January last year.

The Dutchman scored just ten goals in his first 46 games for the Villans across all competitions, though, and was sent on loan to Roma in January.

Since arriving in Italy, the forward has scored 12 times in 16 matches, as well as providing two assists.

It is claimed that Roma are set to activate their option-to-buy clause and sign the 27-year-old permanently this summer, with the fee likely to be in the region of £25 million.

Newcastle United are also said to be interested in the Netherlands international, while La Liga champions Barcelona are also credited with an interest.
