The Red Devils secured their place in next season’s Champions League by beating Liverpool 3-2 in a thrilling encounter earlier this month, before being held to a goalless draw by Sunderland at The Stadium of Light on Saturday.

Caretaker head coach Michael Carrick remains in charge of United, but it is currently unclear who will be in the hot seat at Old Trafford on the first day of next season.

In the meantime, though, it has emerged that Manchester United are eyeing a move to sign a highly-rated Serie A defender.

As per Italian outlet Gazzetta, via CaughtOffside, the Red Devils have identified AC Milan star Strahinja Pavlovic as a possible transfer target ahead of the summer window.

The report claims that the Manchester outfit are on the hunt for defensive reinforcements and are particularly searching for a long-term replacement for Harry Maguire.

Pavlovic, 24, has been in superb form for Milan this season and his impressive displays have landed him on United’s radar, according to the report.

The Serbian – who has been capped more than 50 times for his country – joined Milan from Austrian side RB Salzburg back in 2024 and has since made a total of 71 appearances for his current side.

The report claims that AC Milan would stand to make a significant profit on the Serb if they do sell him, having paid just £15.6 million to sign the player last summer.

It remains to be seen, however, whether or not Manchester United will be able to agree a deal with their Italian counterparts.

Pavlovic’s contract with Milan is set to run until the end of the 2027/28 season, but United could look to lure him to Old Trafford when the window reopens this summer.
