Man Utd chief Sir Jim Ratcliffe green lights Elliot Anderson wage demands

Manchester United are now optimistic about their chances of signing a £100m target this summer, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe already giving the go ahead.

Man Utd prepared to spend big on star signing

The Red Devils are already on the verge of commencing their summer business by signing Ederson from Atalanta. In a deal worth £40m, the Brazilian is set to get Man United’s midfield rebuild underway.

Beyond him, though, there are still several names on the agenda. Mateus Fernandes is still one to watch at West Ham United. It feels highly unlikely that he’ll spend a season in the Championship, but the Hammers’ £85m asking price is certainly complicating things, to say the least.

The Red Devils want to sign a striker.

From United’s perspective, a move for the Portuguese star only becomes a priority if they miss out on other targets like Elliot Anderson this summer.

The Nottingham Forest midfielder has reportedly agreed a deal in principle with Manchester City, but the Red Devils are optimistic they can still lure him to Old Trafford.

According to The Guardian, Sir Jim Ratcliffe has approved Anderson’s wage demands and is ready to grant the England star a £150,000-a-week salary, despite ‘remaining intent on trimming costs’.

That is on top of the £100m transfer fee that Nottingham Forest are set to demand, which would make Anderson one of the most expensive signings in Man United history. As far as Old Trafford chiefs are concerned, however, it’s a price worth paying.

Why Man Utd are right to go all out for Anderson

As far as transformative signings go, Anderson sits at the very top of the list this summer. The Nottingham Forest midfielder is the exact profile of player that Man United need. He would take them from top four hopefuls to a top four guarantee pushing to join the Premier League’s title race.

No outfield player made more ball recoveries in Europe’s top five leagues last season and only nine players made more tackles. Out of possession, there’s a strong argument that Anderson is the best midfielder that the Premier League has to offer.

Man United have spent big so wastefully in the past, but the Nottingham Forest star would not join their long list of transfer flops. He would be an excellent addition.
