Maple Leafs recall Dennis Hildeby, assign Artur Akhtyamov to Toronto Marlies
Hildeby has appeared in 19 games (13 starts) with the Maple Leafs this season, posting a record of 5-6-4 to go along with a 2.90 goals-against average and 0.912 save percentage. Toronto signed Hildeby to a three-year extension worth $841,667 annually in September. The 24-year-old has totalled a record of 9-8-5, a 2.70 GAA and 0.896 save percentage, helping the Marlies clinch a playoff berth in the AHL’s North Division.

Hildeby will be waiver-exempt, crowding the Maple Leafs’ goaltending picture over the summer. Anthony Stolarz’s four-year, $15 million contract extension is set to kick in prior to next season, while Joseph Woll remains under contract until the completion of the 2027-28 season with a cap-hit of $3.66 million, raising the question on if one of these three will be moved prior to the beginning of next year.

Akhtyamov has appeared in three games this season with the Maple Leafs, with his NHL debut coming in relief back on December 13 in a 6-3 loss against the Edmonton Oilers. The former fourth-round draft pick in 2020 made his first NHL start last Thursday against the New York Islanders, stopping 39-of-44 shots in the 5-3 loss. Over his three games, the 24-year-old goaltender has a record of 0-2-0, a 4.76 GAA and 0.877 save percentage.

Akhtyamov has appeared in 36 games with the Marlies this year, posting a record of 20-14-4, a 2.90 GAA, a 0.903 save percentage and was named an AHL All-Star this season for the first time in his professional career. On March 15, the Maple Leafs signed Akhtyamov to a three-year extension beginning before the 2026-27 season, with an AAV of $900,000.

The Maple Leafs have one game remaining on their 2025-26 regular season schedule, on Wednesday night in Ottawa. The Marlies have two remaining this upcoming weekend at the Coca-Cola Coliseum when they host the Laval Rocket before getting set for the Calder Cup playoffs.
