Michael Carrick records 10th win this season against Liverpool

What makes Carrick’s achievement all the more impressive is the quality of opposition he’s overcome, having now defeated all four teams that currently join us in the top five.

Aston Villa, now in fifth place, did put up a fight when they visited Old Trafford in March, levelling Casemiro’s opener in the second half through Ross Barkley, but Cunha soon restored our lead, before Benjamin Sesko notched the winner.

Sunday’s win against Liverpool completed the collection and again showed resilience, as our early 2-0 lead was pegged back by the Merseysiders in the second half, before Kobbie Mainoo defiantly slotted home the winner in front of the Stretford End.

That was the latest in our current three-game winning streak – which includes two wins against fellow European challengers Chelsea and Brentford – and sealed our spot in next season’s UEFA Champions League.
