Tommy Dreamer’s departure from TNA has sparked a wave of stories from wrestlers and personalities sharing negative experiences, but Michael Elgin says his interactions with the veteran were very different.
Taking to social media, Elgin said he could not speak on the claims being made by others, but based on his own experiences, Dreamer was always supportive and helpful. He also noted that Dreamer stood by him when he was dealing with issues involving TNA, despite not being in a major position of power at the time. He wrote,
“I can’t speak on what some are claiming Dreamer said to them. All I can say is I have never personally seen Dreamer be anything but helpful to talent. He was also very supportive of me when the issues with TNA arose, but he wasn’t in a top role then.”
Referee Perch claimed that Dreamer once pulled him aside backstage at a TNA event and warned him that he would make sure he never found work in the industry. According to Perch, the interaction was especially discouraging because he was still trying to learn and establish himself in wrestling. He wrote,
“Tommy Dreamer pulled me aside backstage at a TNA show, telling me he would do everything he could to make sure I don’t earn a job in the wrestling business. All I did was try to learn and grow from experiences, though his words were very discouraging for a young student to hear.”
Carlie Bravo also shared a story involving Dreamer, claiming he was told that while Dreamer thought he was talented, he did not know how to present him to a wider audience as a “cocky black guy.” Bravo said the comments ultimately did not stop him from staying true to himself and finding success. He wrote,
“He told me I was very talented but couldn’t hire me cuz ‘he didn’t know if he could market ‘cocky black guy’ to the world’. Needless to say, I’m on top of the game and never changed one bit.”
