Mick Foley may not be done inside the ring just yet, and he already has one AEW name in mind.
While speaking with Going Ringside, Foley was asked about recent talk that he could have one more match. That chatter picked up after Foley spoke with Ariel Helwani, where the idea of another match came up. Foley didn’t shut it down, but he made it clear this is not something he would do just for a cheap nostalgia pop.
“I had this great 30-minute conversation with Ariel Helwani and he asked me about the possibility of one more match. You never know. I did say if the stars were aligned, but we have to see how the stars align. And I’d have to be in really good shape and feel like I could have a match that wouldn’t disappoint people.”
That’s classic Foley. He knows fans would love to see him back, but he also knows the standard attached to his name. The man didn’t make a career out of taking insane punishment just to come back and mail it in. When asked if there was an AEW star he had his eyes on, Foley brought up Darby Allin. That one makes sense, because Darby is basically the modern-day human crash test dummy AEW fans lose their minds over.
“Hey, you know, I pointed out to Darby that I am on record of saying he would be a dream opponent. So, you never know. You never know what the future may bring.”
Foley also admitted he still has work to do physically before any of that could happen.
“I’m down a lot of weight, but my cardio is suspect at best, and I’d still have to lose another 30 lbs just to hit poor conditions. So, we’ll see if there’s some changes in the next year.”
Foley vs. Darby Allin would be absolute chaos on paper. It would also come with obvious concerns, because Foley’s body has already been through more than most wrestlers could ever imagine. Still, Foley didn’t say no. He said the stars would have to align, and in wrestling, that’s usually enough to keep fans fantasy booking.
