Mick Foley’s Final Match Could Be in AEW

Mick Foley’s AEW signing may not just be about appearances and nostalgia.

During WrestleVotes Radio, Joey Votes said there is a belief from a source within AEW that Foley may have already decided to wrestle one more match before officially signing with the company. If Foley does move forward with that plan, AEW would be eager to present it, and All In was mentioned as a possible landing spot. Foley recently made comments about the idea of having one final match, and AEW could be the company to give him that stage.

“Following Mick Foley’s recent comments about potentially wrestling one final match, we spoke with a source within AEW who believes the company would be eager to present that bout should Foley ultimately move forward with his plans. Furthermore, the source indicated there is a belief internally that Foley had already made the decision to return to the ring one last time prior to officially signing with AEW last month. Additionally, the source speculated that Foley’s involvement at all in would bring significant attention to the event and viewed the show as a strong potential stage for a farewell match. That said, they stressed they were unsure whether that timeline would ultimately align with Foley’s plans should he proceed with one final in ring appearance.”

Joey then broke down the bigger picture, saying the feeling is that people within AEW believe Foley already wants the match, and that Tony Khan would be open to presenting it in a major way.

“So TC feels like there’s people within AEW that believe Mick Foley had his mind made up. He wants to do one more match and he wants to do it under the AEW umbrella. Feeling is that Tony Khan would be eager to present this and book it similar to how he did Sting’s retirement and all that. Do you like this? Do you want to see one more match out of Mick Foley and is there any other option other than MJF?”

TC made it clear that he is all for Foley stepping back into the ring one more time. He argued that Foley’s look and presentation make the idea more believable than some other older wrestlers returning for one last run.

“I am 100 on board for fully having one more match. Wow. Especially considering Mick Foley is a guy who wrestles with sweatpants, a T shirt, a vest on, sometimes he’s good to go. We’ve seen wrestlers go out looking unlike anything they’ve ever looked like inside the ring, whether it be Hogan, Flair, whoever it might be at the final stages of their career. I think Mick Foley today looks exactly like he looked 20, 30 years ago.”

Joey added that Foley arguably looks better now after losing weight, and TC agreed before pointing to MJF as the obvious opponent.

“Exactly. So for him to go out there looking similar to what we know, Mick Foley, Mankind dude, love Cactus Jack all the look like, I have no problem with him going to aew, going out with one more match. As you mentioned there, Joey Votes, MJF is really the guy to do it.”

TC explained why MJF makes the most sense. Both men are from Long Island, and their characters are natural opposites. Foley is the everyman legend who built his career on sacrifice, while MJF is the arrogant elitist who could tear into Foley on the microphone.

“Both being from Long Island, I think plays into that story. But also just the characters are two opposites. Somebody who’s kind of salty, there’s kind of an every man’s man in Mick Foley. And then another guy who’s an elitist who thinks he’s better than everybody, especially people who look like Mick Foley. I could just see MJF really getting in his bag there of material to go against a guy like Mick Foley on the microphone, I think would make for great television.”

TC then went even further, saying he would be interested in Foley vs. MJF whether or not a title was involved. He even floated the idea of a title-versus-career match.

“If somehow, some way they can make this happen. I’m all for it. MJF with or without the title against Mick Foley, title versus career would be incredible. I don’t think anybody can foresee Mick Foley being the AW champion, but hell, if they wanted to do it for one night. Mick Foley beating MJF and then putting his title back on the line the next night and losing it right back to MJF would be incredible booking if you ask me.”

Joey then asked whether Foley vs. MJF would be better at All In or if AEW should stretch the story out for several months and bring it to Long Island, possibly at Full Gear inside UBS Arena.

“I do have one more question for you, tc. Would you rather this match, potential match with Mick Foley, MJF happen at all in or would you rather this play out over the course of say six months and they’re able to book, let’s say full gear at ubs? In Long Island. On Long island, where both those guys are from, would you prefer the stadium or would you prefer the hometown atmosphere?”

TC said he would prefer the longer story, especially if it led to Long Island. He also suggested All In could be used to begin the angle instead of hosting the match itself.

“Well, as always, I’ll take the long term booking as the answer. But selfishly I’d love to see it happen along Island. You and I can make a day out of it. Get down to ubs. A beautiful arena. If you’ve never been to Long Island’s UBS Arena, I don’t know if it’s Elmont over there now. Yeah. Is that where it is? Very nice Stadium arena, home of the New York Islanders. And I think it makes for a great wrestling venue as well.”

TC then laid out a possible way for AEW to start the program, with Foley costing MJF a title match and setting up a bigger feud down the line.

“Maybe you use all in as a way to start the seeds. Yeah. For that program. Maybe Mick Foley cost MJF the title somehow some way. I would love to see it happen. Maybe do Career versus Hair at some point in time. Hair versus Hair, Career versus Career, whatever it might be. Put a stipulation on the line, make it happen on Long Island. Two Long island boys going at it. Mick Foley’s last name.”

AEW has already shown that it can handle a legend’s farewell in a major way after Sting’s retirement, and Foley would bring a completely different kind of emotion to the table. If the company can line up Foley, MJF, and the right setting, this could become one of AEW’s most talked-about nostalgia-driven stories.
