Starting Pitchers

Brandon Woodruff

The Brewers activated Brandon Woodruff from the injured list today, where he had been nursing a shoulder injury since April 30. Before getting injured, Woodruff pitched 30.0 innings in April, posting a 3.60 ERA and a 3.97 FIP with 25 strikeouts and seven walks. The 33-year-old hasn’t pitched a full season since 2022, including missing the entire season in 2024, but when he has pitched, he’s been good. His ERA has only ever been above 4.00 in 2017, his first year in the major leagues.

Woodruff doesn’t walk batters and he doesn’t give up home runs. He had one of the top strikeout rates and one of the lowest walk rates in MLB in 64.2 innings last season. In 2025, Woodruff’s splits were about even, with right-handed batters hitting him a little better than lefties. Neither hit him well with an average below .200, but righties had six home runs against him. This year, he’s allowed four home runs, two each to left and right-handed hitters.

Brady Singer

It’s no secret that Brady Singer has not had a good season, and it all starts with the home run ball. He’s given up 17 home runs, third-most in the National League. Of those 17 home runs allowed, 11 have been to left-handed batters. Lefties are hitting .324 against him this season. His strikeout rate is also down significantly from last year, at 17.1%.

Singer could be turning a corner though. His ERA in June is 2.40 over 15.0 innings and three starts. he’s allowed only home run in that span and his strikeout rate is at 24%. He’ll have a tough test tonight against the division-leading Brewers, but it will be an interesting start to watch. Milwaukee doesn’t hit a lot of home runs, but they make contact and are able to manufacture runs in other ways, such as stealing bases.
