MJF Blames Vince McMahon For Fans Seeing Hair Match Stipulations As Comedy

MJF believes fans only view hair match stipulations as comedy because of how Vince McMahon presented them over the years.

MJF is currently set to put his hair on the line against Darby Allin in a Title vs. Hair Match at AEW Double or Nothing. While the feud itself has been treated seriously on AEW television, some fans online have criticized the stipulation and argued that hair matches feel too comedic for such an intense rivalry.

During an interview with Jon Alba of Sports Illustrated, MJF pushed back hard against that idea and pointed directly at Vince McMahon for shaping that perception among modern wrestling fans.

“You can thank Vince McMahon for that, yeah. It wasn’t comedy in Memphis. It wasn’t comedy in World Class. It wasn’t comedy in Mexico.”

MJF then made it clear he is taking the stipulation very seriously, explaining that losing his hair would genuinely bother him both professionally and personally.

“Listen, I can’t speak for anybody else, all I know is that I make money off this hair, okay? I’m in movies, I’m a top guy in this industry and if I want to be a top guy in this industry, I can’t be bald.”

He continued by joking that the only way he could ever pull off being bald would be by trying to imitate Jason Statham, though he admitted he already knows exactly how bad he looks without hair thanks to an experience from high school.

“Jason Statham can pull it off, I’ve seen what my head looks like with no hair. My junior year of high school, the whole football team got buzz cuts. It wasn’t pretty man and I’m not interested in going back to that. No thank you.”

MJF has leaned heavily into the stipulation leading into Double or Nothing, repeatedly insisting there is no scenario where he plans to leave the event bald. Meanwhile, Darby Allin continues to frame the match as a chance to humiliate one of AEW’s biggest stars on one of the company’s biggest stages.

Do you think hair matches still work as serious stipulations in modern wrestling, or have they become too associated with comedy over the years? Please share your thoughts and feedback in the comment section below.
