MJF Says Wrestling Will Remember Him As The Face Of The 2020s Era

MJF isn’t lacking confidence heading into AEW Double or Nothing, and now he’s putting himself in the same conversation as some of the biggest legends the wrestling business has ever produced.

While speaking to SHAK Wrestling, MJF explained why he believes he stands apart from most top-tier talkers in wrestling history. According to him, many great promo talents couldn’t necessarily back it up inside the ring, but he believes he excels in both areas at an elite level.

After discussing how wrestlers who can both talk and wrestle at a top level are rare, MJF directly compared himself to names like Ric Flair, Steve Austin, The Rock, and John Cena.

“And what’s cute now is I am seeing the light bulb go off because when you’re as good of a talker as me, what happens is you get compared to good talkers of your and good talkers of your, as much as I love professional wrestling, um most of the time if you’re this incredible talker, you’re a dog [ __ ] wrestler. And we’ve seen it time and time and time and time again. And there aren’t a lot of people that can talk and wrestle like me. And I’d imagine the last person that could at the level that I do was Flair. I mean, [ __ ] Uh, you’re looking at Flair, you’re looking at Austin, you’re looking at Rock, you’re looking at Cena. These are the names you’re thinking of and these are the people that I get compared to when I meet people, you know, when I leave my house because I’m constantly getting stopped.”

MJF didn’t stop there either. He doubled down by declaring that his legacy is already shaping the current era of wrestling and claimed fans will have no choice but to remember him when discussing the biggest stars of the 2020s.

“And you know, that’s that’s not something to ignore. Like I call myself a generational talent because I know when my run’s over, when people talk about the, you know, 2020s, they’re going to talk about MJF. They’re not going to have a choice. Um, because I am the focal point of this era and I’m about to become on this Sunday a three-time world champion by 30.”

MJF has never shied away from believing he belongs at the top of professional wrestling, but these latest comments show just how highly he views his own place in wrestling history. With another world title opportunity ahead of him at Double or Nothing, he clearly sees himself as the centerpiece of AEW moving forward.
