Vasseur: “With the new cars, Monaco could feel very different”

Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur has shared his thoughts ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix, the sixth round of the Formula 1 World Championship.

Ferrari heads to Leclerc’s home race

These are special days for Charles Leclerc. The Monegasque driver has just announced a contract extension with Ferrari on the eve of the Monte Carlo weekend, his home event, a race that has often placed him at the center of attention, for both positive and frustrating reasons.

The famous street circuit, with its unforgiving barriers and narrow layout, remains one of the most unique challenges on the Formula 1 calendar. It is a track that Charles Leclerc has always understood exceptionally well. He could once again be a contender this weekend, especially considering that outright engine performance is not the most decisive factor around the streets of Monte Carlo — a potentially important detail given that the power unit has been the main weakness of the Ferrari SF-26 so far this season.

What remains to be seen is how Formula 1’s new-generation cars will behave around Monaco. The latest machines are more compact, lighter and narrower than their predecessors, characteristics that Frederic Vasseur is particularly interested in observing throughout the weekend.

Vasseur’s comments

“Monaco is always a unique weekend and this year it will be especially interesting with the new cars, which should provide very different sensations,” the Frenchman commented. “It is a circuit where qualifying, confidence and execution matter even more than usual, and where every small detail can make the difference.

“For Charles, it is obviously a very special race, at home, in front of his own people and a huge number of Ferrari fans, and we know how much energy he gains from racing in these conditions. At the same time, our approach does not change: we need to stay focused, build the weekend session by session, and make sure we put both drivers in the best possible position to extract the maximum from the car.”

Frederic Vasseur’s insightful outlook ahead of the upcoming race weekend therefore emphasizes how much a driver’s long-term success depends on matching a stable baseline with a team’s unique developmental trajectory. By aligning his personal peak performance requirements with Maranello’s long-term engineering vision, the championship leader has a prime opportunity to maximize trackside performance and chase the ultimate prize. If the engineering offices want to preserve their competitive depth across upcoming regulatory cycles, streamlining these administrative car adaptations provides the precise operational clarity needed to eliminate tracking errors and secure their championship future.
