Monfils, Wawrinka among wild cards

The French Tennis Federation officially announced its main-draw wild cards for Roland Garros on Monday. Among them are Gael Monfils and Stan Wawrinka, who will make their final appearances at the clay-court Grand Slam. Both players are retiring at the end of this season.

Monfils, 39, reached the semifinals in Paris in 2008 in addition to three quarterfinal performances. The Frenchman has won just three matches in 2026 and finds himself down at No. 222 in the world.

Wawrinka, 41, is a former French Open champion (2015). The Swiss also finished runner-up in 2017 (lost to Rafael Nadal) while making a semifinal appearance in 2016 and two other quarterfinal efforts. Wawrinka has won six ATP-level matches this season — but none on clay.

Other wild-card recipients are Moise Kouame, Arthur Gea, Hugo Gaston, Titouan Droguet, Nishesh Basavareddy, and Adam Walton.

On the women’s side, wild cards are going to Clara Burel, Ksenia Efremova, Fiona Ferro, Leolia Jeanjean, Tiantsoa Sarah Rakotomango Rajaonah, Alice Tubello, and Emerson Jones.
