While the Philadelphia Eagles and the New England Patriots may spend Monday finalizing the exact terms of the agreement, it continues to sound like Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown will be a Patriots player sooner rather than later.
While speaking at quarterback Drake Maye’s inaugural MayeDay Softball Classic over the weekend, Patriots wide receiver Demario Douglas seemed excited to begin sharing a locker room with Brown.
Demario Douglas: Patriots adding A.J. Brown would be “amazing”
“If he comes, that would be amazing,” Douglas said about Brown, per Karen Guregian of MassLive. “Good guy. I follow him on Instagram to see what he does. He’s a ballplayer.”
Earlier in May, fellow Patriots receiver Romeo Doubs indicated that he also would be just fine with losing targets to Brown later this year. Additionally, Maye expressed excitement when asked about possibly throwing passes to whom he referred to as a “phenomenal player” in Brown.
As recently as Monday morning, reports suggested that the Eagles could officially trade Brown to the Patriots “in the next 24-48 hours.” Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio noted that the Brown trade can’t become official until June 2 for reasons related to the salary cap.
Brown and Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel are reportedly both keen on reuniting this spring. Vrabel was Brown’s head coach when the two were with the Tennessee Titans from 2019 through the 2021 season.
Rhamondre Stevenson has big expectations for A.J. Brown
“I think he’d do a lot,” Patriots running back Rhamondre Stevenson added about Brown. “He’s a great player, obviously. One of the best receivers in the league. That’s above what we do. I just leave it up to the front office. I know they’re going to get people here that will help us win.”
Numerous reports have said that the Patriots are the only “viable destination” for Brown and that he and the Eagles have an understanding regarding how this saga will end. While nothing is official until at least one of the teams confirms the details of the transaction, it will be downright shocking if Brown isn’t on the New England roster by the time the first weekend of June arrives.
