Morgan Rielly said he wants to stay, but will the Toronto Maple Leafs’ next GM approach him about a fresh start?
Lance Hornby: Rielly on the speculation that he will be asked this offseason about waiving his no-movement clause: “Hard to comment when that conversation hasn’t happened.”
Arun Srinivasan: Rielly said yesterday that he wants to stay with the Maple Leafs and hasn’t been approached about a potential trade.
Luke Fox: Rielly knows there are going to be some changes this offseason, but adds, “I’ve always wanted to stay. I still want to stay.”
NHL Rumour Report: Chris Johnston on TSN on Monday, April 13th on Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Morgan Rielly: ” In the past…he’s been unwilling to waive the no-move clause; I think it’s more than likely that whoever comes in as the hiring here is gonna at least have that conversation…would he consider moving on.”

Tyler Kuehl of Daily Faceoff: David Pagnotta was on Daily Faceoff Live earlier this week, when asked about Morgan Rielly’s future with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Last offseason at their locker cleanout day, then GM Brad Treleving spoke with Rielly on if he’d be open to a move, and it sounded like it didn’t go far.
“I think taking that into account, taking in all the buzz around this club this season, how things have gone, obviously, there’s change coming with whoever is instituted as GM. You’re probably going to be looking at that.
His name popped up ahead of the trade deadline, the week of the deadline. There was a team that was engaged in talks with Toronto in trying to make that happen. Now, whether they circle back in the summer with the new guy, we’ll wait and see, but I think there are a few teams that may look to see if the availability is there.
I think there are going to be teams that are curious as to what the Toronto Maple Leafs want to do. I think Morgan’s curious about what may happen as well. I think he was just a little more open than he normally has been about the possibility that, yeah, this could be the end. … So, we’ll see kind of where this goes.”
The Fourth Period: There was speculation surrounding Morgan Rielly late February, early March, leading up to the NHL trade deadline. He’s got four years left on his contract at a $7.5 million cap hit, and a full no-movement clause.
It’s been rumored that the San Jose Sharks, Chicago Blackhawks and Seattle Kraken had some interest in Rielly.
