Morocco frees three Senegalese fans after AFCON final violence, 15 still jailed – Ghana Latest Football News, Live Scores, Results

Morocco has released three Senegalese fans who had been jailed for their involvement in violence during the Africa Cup of Nations final in Rabat, after they completed their three-month sentences.

The trio were freed on Saturday from Al Arjat 2 prison, located northeast of the capital, before being transported to a police station for final administrative procedures. They were later received by officials from the Senegalese Embassy upon their release.

One of the supporters, speaking shortly after regaining his freedom, expressed gratitude, saying “dima Maroc, dima Maghrib” – a phrase meaning “long live Morocco.”

Their defence lawyer, Patrick Kabou, praised the efforts of diplomatic and consular authorities in supporting the process that led to their release. He also called for continued support for the individuals as they reintegrate after their time in custody.

The three were part of a wider group of Senegalese supporters arrested following disturbances linked to the AFCON final in Rabat. While they have now been released, 15 others remain in prison after receiving sentences ranging from six months to one year. Those convictions were upheld on appeal earlier this week.

The incident has kept attention on crowd control and fan behaviour during major continental tournaments, as well as the role of diplomatic engagement in resolving such cases.
