Moses Itauma date changed after Anthony Joshua announcement

Moses Itauma has a new date for his next fight after Anthony Joshua took his fight date.

Itauma was lining up to return on July 25 at the O2 Arena, although it was confirmed last week that Joshua would be fighting Kristian Prenga on that date in Riyadh.

Prenga is being viewed as a warm-up bout for ‘AJ’ before he finally faces Tyson Fury later this year, with both men signing contracts to fight each other.

Itauma’s promoter Frank Warren has now decided to move his next bout to August 8 at the O2.

Warren has not finalised Itauma’s opponent yet, but admits he would have relished a showdown between the 21-year-old and Joshua.

“He will probably fight now on August 8th,” Warren said on The Ariel Helwani Show.

“He’s got this warm-up fight coming up against this guy he’s fighting.

“I would have loved him to have had the warm-up fight against Moses.

“That would have been a great warm-up fight and a good test for him.

“It probably would have done [ruined the Fury fight].

Itauma secured his 14th victory as a professional with a fifth round stoppage of Jermaine Franklin in March.

Joshua fights for the first time since a sixth round knockout of Jake Paul in December.

The 36-year-old was involved in a fatal car crash 10 days later, which killed two of his friends and left him with minor injuries.

The two-time heavyweight world champion is back training alongside former rival, Oleksandr Usyk in Spain.

“It’s no secret I’ve taken some time to consolidate and rebuild to be ready for stepping back into the ring and today is the next step on that journey,” Joshua said.

“I’m delighted to have agreed a multi-fight deal starting with July 25th in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

“I’m looking forward to competing and picking up where I left off.

“As I said. The landlord will collect his rent. That is certain.”
